This year, the Annual Gala of the Brookline High School 21st Century Fund was a larger celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the Fund’s inception in December, 1998. We are using the occasion to depart from the past practice of honoring a Distinguished Alumnus, shifting the focus to the inspirational attributes of the Fund itself as reflected in the Gala’s theme, “A Passion for Excellence.” Six people connected to BHS and who support the Fund’s work celebrated the Gala with us and served as our honorees. Each is considered at the top of his or her respective field and reflective of our theme. Together, they represent the key groups – alumni, parents, and educators – who form the foundation of the Fund’s operation and support.

An important feature of this year’s Anniversary Celebration was an afternoon forum that allowed BHS students and teachers to interact with the honorees. After each honoree spoke briefly about their personal stories, moderator Bob Weintraub, Headmaster of BHS, asked them to offer various perspectives on what it takes to follow your dream. BHS students had the opportunity to ask questions. This was a powerful event for all involved.

The 21st Century Fund creates innovative programs to inspire academic excellence for all students. We believe that people who are inspired by their passions aim for excellence, and the Fund’s programs support students and teachers in that pursuit. To follow our theme, the Fund helps spark new ideas and light the fire for students and teachers. Thanks to our supporters that shared the passion and celebrated with us on November 15.
